In this day and age where jobs are rapidly being automated, creativity and tech skills are some of the most important skills in the workplace. At TAIS, we give students a jump on others by giving them opportunities to hone their skills in graphic design and video production. In Yearbook and Publication and Photoshop classes, students product print and web-based projects. Students are taught the basics of graphic design and then apply it in quarterly newsletters and the Yearbook. In Video-Editing and Production, students are taken through the process of movie production from storyboards, writing scripts, and set production, to video, editing, and special effects. For those interested in a career in media, this experience is invaluable.
Every student dreams of owning a beautiful car one day, but most don’t know the difference between a screwdriver and a wrench. At TAIS we believe practical knowledge is as important as book knowledge, and to that end we provide students with the opportunity to learn about the systems of the car and then apply that knowledge in basic service and emergency repair. Using the wide range of tools available, they are able to use their hands to disassemble and reassemble the parts they learn about it the book, except they’re on real, working automobiles.
Community Service Class
Each student is expected to give back to their community while at TAIS. In accordance with this, students are required to complete 20 hours of volunteer community service each year they attend TAIS. To assist with this, the Community Service Class was created. Students in this class go into the community and search for new and exciting opportunities for service. It’s up to them, with the assistance of their teacher, to schedule these programs for the rest of the school. Typically, they help out in elementary schools, street cleaning, and the fire department. Don’t worry, we leave the fires to the professionals.
Nutrition and Healthy Cooking Class
In this day and age of fast food and take-out, it’s easy to forget how important nutrition is to our health. In this class, students are walked through the steps of making correct choices when it comes to food and they get to practice making healthy, delicious recipes. Most people think that if something tastes good, it must be bad for you, but in this class students learn to make tasty dishes that are also good for them.
